When your child has announced, they would like to learn an instrument, whilst it is very exciting for your child, it is very important that you support them when they are learning.
Communication between the teacher and parents is vitally important when a child is learning their instrument, so that you are aware of what your child needs to practice. Parents sometimes think they can’t help if they are nor musical, but the fact that you take an interest is very important to your child, they may want to you show you what they did in their lesson and then see if you can do it too!
Allow opportunities for them to perform to you or their grandparents and give plenty of praise when they finish.
Encourage them to join an orchestra suitable for their level is also a great way of showing support.
Finding time for practice can be difficult with all the other activities, but if you can set aside 15 mins every day, you will see a huge difference in their progress, and it will keep the teacher happy too.
