My Musical Journey

ABOUT ME

As a child I'd always been fascinated with music and how people played instruments, my first introduction of music at school was listening to the Hebrides Overture and learning the recorder.  I pestered my parents because I loved the sound of the violin and I started learning  at age 11 whilst at school until I was 16.  Regrettably I stopped playing until I was 36 as life’s obstacles inevitably got in the way, but when my daughter aged 6 came home from school wanting to learn the violin, I picked up where I had left off years earlier.

I started having lessons again in 2003 and took ABRSM Grade 5 Theory in preparation for taking Grade 8 in 2005. I then decided I wanted to become a violin teacher as I’ve always felt very passionate about music and passing the skills onto others. I started studying for the Certificate of Teaching CTABRSM from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and completed the course in 2009.

In 2011, I took the leap to create my own business teaching many pupils over the years and maintained a very busy schedule. I teach in schools and have my private practice.

In my spare time I play in my string quartet, where we perform concerts to raise money for charities. I believe that playing collaboratively with others is invaluable and can increase confidence and a love for performing.

In 2018 I decided to set up a string orchestra for adults, we currently have over 30 members, and through its success I then went on to setting up a junior  orchestra for players aged 7 upwards. My pupils thoroughly enjoy these practices and performing together.
